An American woodcock banded on May 27 was a new species for banding at RRBO.  One individual was banded but three others were observed close to the nets.

Our New Logo

Thanks to Cailin and her graphic-gifted friends for our new logo.  There's a bit of tweaking that still needs to be done, but we couldn't resist using it.

State of the Birds

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced the release of the first ever U.S. State of the Birds report in March, 2009.

The report was developed by the joint efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, state government wildlife agencies and non-governmental organizations including, American Bird Conservancy, Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Klamath Bird Observatory, National Audubon Society, and The Nature Conservancy.

This sobering report documents the decline of bird populations, but also provides encouraging examples of how sustained habitat conservation and other environmental efforts can reverse the decline of many bird species.
