2006 Banding Data

RRBO completed the first year of banding at Linwood MacDonald on October 31, 2006.  Although our original intentions were to continue banding through December, a family medical emergency, which necessitated my becoming a care-giver for much of the time, closed RRBO for the winter on Nov. 1st.

Our first "year" was really only slightly more than 6 months.  We did very little banding  in June, July and August due to opressive heat and/or rain.

The breakdown:

April: 6

May: 101

June: 8

July: 56

Aug.:83

Sept. 216

Oct.: 307

New birds banded:  777

Species: 61

The five most common birds were:

Gray Catbird - 126

Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 80

White-throated sparrow - 58

Song-sparrow - 51

Eastern phoebe - 36

We have been notified of one recovery: a HY song sparrow was reported killed by a cat in North Carolina in December.
